Hundreds of leading DIY and garden suppliers, wholesalers and independent and multiple retailers came together at the 2016 DIY Week Awards on Tuesday, February 16.

The winners of the industry’s most prestigious accolades were revealed to a packed audience at the event, which once again took place at the Ricoh Arena during the Totally Tools Show in Coventry.

Exmouth Power Tools took home the Tool Retailer of the Year title. It was awarded by a stellar line-up of judges, including: Paul Bagnall, channel manager, Henkel Consumer Adhesives; Steve Akers director of buying, BIRA Direct; Colin Petty, industry consultant and former DIY Week Publisher; Nigel Wright, operations director, Stax Trade Centres and Tina Wilby, joint owner of Wilbys Home Hardware.

The judges said: “They are working hard to promote the business and they’ve got an impressive range of tools. The travel mug initiative was a great idea. Add that to the publicity received when they repaired a prosthetic leg for a customer. Now that’s great service!

DIY Week editor Fiona Garcia commented: “The DIY Week Awards are about putting the spotlight on and celebrating excellence in retailing right across the DIY and garden industry. Our 2016 winners impressed a strong panel of judges to earn their place on the list and are fantastic examples of outstanding retail businesses that are ‘switched on’ and continue to drive the market and keep our industry exciting.”

Publication and Event Manager Joanne Harrison added: “A highly coveted DIY Week Award is a real quality mark for retailers and this award tells customers that they offer unrivalled products and service. Congratulations to Exmouth Power Tools and thanks also to all of the sponsors of this year’s DIY Week Awards for helping to make it such a success.”

Another winner on the night was industry charity, the Rainy Day Trust. Thanks to donations from guests at the event, the charity raised in excess of £1,500. The Trust also presented its highest accolade to a partner who has gone ‘above & beyond’ in support for the charity naming Jonathan Collier of Monument Tools as the recipient of its Benefactor award.
